Land Development :: Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and Development-Oriented Transit (DOT)
Thoughtful consideration of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and Development-Oriented Transit (DOT) maximizes the full potential of the significant investment in transit. TOD is a type of community development that includes a mixture of housing, office, retail, and/or other commercial development, and amenities integrated into a walkable neighborhood, located within a half-mile of quality public transportation. DOT is an approach to planning and designing transit projects, with a proactive view to maximizing community connection and integration.
DEA staff are experts in application of these “best practices” (TOD and DOT), which are essentially two sides of the same coin and which are necessary for ensuring that transit projects do not “turn their backs” on the surrounding community; rather, they connect to and help preserve surrounding neighborhoods in order to achieve the community’s vision for growth.
