DEA Acquires CHS

Staff join David Evans and Associates, Inc. as firm acquires assets of CHS Engineers, LLC

David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA), a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm of more than 800 people headquartered in Portland, Oregon, acquired the assets of CHS Engineers, LLC (CHS) of Bellevue, Washington, on June 26, 2020. CHS employees will also join DEA in conjunction with the transaction. The staff of CHS specialize in civil engineering and land surveying for municipal water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. The acquisition brings the specialty of water and wastewater planning and infrastructure design to DEA’s portfolio of services. DEA will now offer communities and municipalities the full spectrum of services relating to water quality, collection, distribution and treatment.

About the purchase, DEA Chief Executive Officer Al Barkouli, Ph.D., P.E., said, “We are very excited about this acquisition of CHS. Besides being an excellent fit of firms with cultures centered around people, both firms share a strong commitment to exceptional client service. With the addition of the CHS team, we are now able to meet more of our client needs in water and wastewater engineering.”

CHS Principal Rodney Langer, P.E., said, “We look forward to being part of DEA and offering additional resources to our current clients as well as increasing our client base. Equally important are the enhanced professional development opportunities we can offer our employees. Since the earliest discussion with DEA leaders, we have recognized our shared values of providing excellent service to our clients and creating a company culture where employees thrive.”

Founded in 1993, CHS has led the design, survey and construction management of a wide range of projects and services including multi-million dollar water and wastewater projects throughout western Washington. The firm’s clients include cities, towns, special-purpose districts, private water purveyors and land development companies.
For more than 40 years, DEA has provided clients with unique and innovative design services for transportation, water, land, energy and marine infrastructure systems. The firm’s staff includes engineers, surveyors, hydrographers, planners, landscape architects and natural resources scientists. DEA has 30 offices nationwide. An employee-owned corporation, DEA consistently ranks among ENR’s (Engineering News Record’s) “Top 100 Pure Design Firms” in the United States.
