Coos Bay Channel Modification (Section 204(f)/408 Report)

Coos Bay, OR

As larger port authorities reach capacity on the US West Coast, small to mid-size ports are seeking opportunities for economic development by expanding their facilities. In order to authorize the channel as a federal channel eligible for maintenance dredging by the USACE, the Port is conducting a study of potential navigation improvements under the authority granted by Section 204(f) of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), 1986. The Port will propose modifications to the Lower Coos Bay Navigation Channel, to accommodate larger deep draft vessels while providing a net positive local, state, and federal economic and environmental benefit. DEA is assisting the Port with permitting, land and water-based surveys, USACE coordination, and other project development services for this important regional project.
