BNSF Railway’s Lakeside Subdivision expansion program expands the current single-track mainline with sidings to a double-track mainline between Spokane and Pasco, Washington. To accomplish this, BNSF is strategically extending existing, controlled siding and double-track segments. DEA provided design, surveying, and construction management services for the 4.5-mile, double-track expansion segment from Ritzville to Tokio, Washington.

The Ritzville-to-Tokio segment extended the old Tokio siding to create a double track. DEA’s success on this project centered on designs that minimized wetland impacts and impacts to train traffic, and a construction approach that controlled construction management costs.
