DEA meets with Oregon Congressman! Pat Gaylord, PLS, met with Congressman Cliff Bentz and lobbyists Darrell Fuller, Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon (PLSO), and JB Byrd, National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). They discussed LiDAR technology and how it relates to terrestrial and hydrographic surveying, natural resources mapping, and expediting cost-saving design processes.
The conversation focused on funding LiDAR data acquisition for the US Geological Survey’s 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) through the proposed national infrastructure bill. This funding would benefit the nation by placing LiDAR on a standardized federal acquisition plan with an estimated benefit-to-cost ratio of 4.7 to 1 . With proper funding, LiDAR technology can assist with disaster recovery, flood plain management and hundreds of other uses. Pat also presented on DEA’s use of LiDAR to expedite survey data delivery in Oregon.
