The Arapahoe Road and Parker Road intersection in southeast Denver has historically been one of the busiest in the Denver area and is a critical junction of State Highway (SH) 83 and SH 88 that provides regional connectivity through this rapidly growing region. The substantial completion of the Arapahoe/Parker Interchange project was the culmination of 10 years of collaborative efforts between the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Arapahoe County, and other local jurisdictions working to find a cost-effective and long-term solution to increasing accessibility, safety, and traffic needs.

DEA was the lead design firm for the final phase of construction. The completed interchange consists of a grade-separated intersection, a two-lane loop ramp to handle the heavy demands from eastbound-to-northbound traffic,; diamond ramps to serve the westbound-to-northbound and eastbound-to-southbound on-ramps, and a unique northbound off-ramp “ring road.” To accommodate funding shortfalls, the project was constructed in phases that provided incremental improvements to traffic flow and safety at the intersection. The project phases were specifically designed to avoid reconstruction and maximize the ability to maintain efficient traffic operations. The resulting improvements, which were constructed with minimal community disruption, support regional access, mobility, safety, and development.
