Owner’s Representative for Sellwood Bridge Replacement

Multnomah County, OR

The Sellwood Bridge spanned the Willamette River, connecting the Sellwood and Westmoreland neighborhoods in South Portland to the west side of the river. Multnomah County completed an environmental impact statement (EIS) supporting a decision to replace the aging, deteriorating bridge.

Given the highly political and complex nature of the design, public engagement, risk, and intergovernmental coordination of this project, in 2010 the county selected DEA to be the owner’s representative to assist with delivery of the Sellwood Bridge project. DEA worked with the county to successfully deliver a high-profile, multimodal bridge and roadway project under the Construction Management/General Contractor (CMGC) model. DEA supported the county through the TIGER III grant application process, securing $17.7 million for the project. DEA provided team coordination, strategic decision-making, and leadership through the design and construction phases.
