Kirkland HOV Direct Access Project

DEA provided architectural and structural engineering services in support of more comprehensive project that provided for various improvements along I-405 near the city of Kirkland, Wash. The project involved the careful coordination with Sound Transit signing staff and the WSDOT bridge design team.

The architectural improvements included the design and documentation of 1,000 linear feet of covered walkway along a new overpass structure, and several mass transit in-line flyerstop structures, the first in the nation, located on the new I-405-HOV direct access ramps. Additionally, several metro and city of Kirkland bus shelters were provided.

This was the first DEA-led project to use ProjectWise, an internet-based network, enabling multiple DEA offices, state and transit agencies, and subconsultants to work on the same network.
