Brookwood Witch Hazel

Project Design

BROOKWOOD AVENUE

The proposed improvements will extend Brookwood Avenue south of TV Highway and connect it to Brookwood Avenue (formerly SW 247th Avenue) at Witch Hazel Road, creating a realigned 4-legged intersection with TV Highway. A new at-grade railroad crossing will be constructed.

The limits of the full improvements to Brookwood Avenue are 49th Avenue on the north to approximately 300 feet south of the Brookwood Avenue/Witch Hazel Road intersection. Full improvements consist of a curbed roadway section with appropriate improvements to traffic, drainage, illumination, landscaping, and provisions for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Interim improvements will be constructed at the north and south ends of Brookwood Avenue to transition the existing features to the limits of the full improvements. An asphalt walkway will be constructed on the eastern side of Brookwood Avenue to Drake Road.

The intersection of Brookwood Avenue and TV Highway will modify the traffic signal to accommodate the additional traffic lanes through the intersection.

TV HIGHWAY

Improvements along TV Highway consist of the addition or lengthening of right-turn lanes from TV Highway onto Brookwood Avenue. The traffic signal and existing railroad crossing at the intersection of Witch Hazel Road and TV Highway will be removed. A bus pull-out will be constructed where the intersection of Witch Hazel is currently located.

WITCH HAZEL

Witch Hazel Road will be widened between the western limits of the Hillsboro School District property and the intersection of Brookwood Avenue to provide a travel lane in each direction and on-street bike lanes and sidewalks. A center turn lane will be constructed between 49th Avenue and Brookwood Avenue to accommodate left-turning vehicles.

The intersection of Brookwood Avenue with Witch Hazel Road will be two-way STOP-controlled for Witch Hazel traffic. Provisions will be made for the installation of a traffic signal at this intersection in the future, however it will not be installed with this project.
