Introduction/Overview

Welcome to the home page for the “Brookwood / Witch Hazel at TV Highway” Intersection Improvement Project.

The Brookwood / Witch Hazel / TV Highway intersection is an offset intersection that operates poorly under existing conditions, and is ranked high on ODOT’s Safety Priority Index System (SPIS) list. The purpose of this project is to realign the intersection of Brookwood Avenue to connect with 247th Avenue at Witch Hazel Road. The goals of the improvements are to address the poor traffic operations and safety deficiencies, and increase the traffic capacity of the intersection. The design approach will balance the needs for safety, transportation planning, community livability, and environmental resources for this project, while carrying forward the goals of the 2004 Witch Hazel Community Plan Task Force and the Technical Advisory Committee.

The proposed improvements will extend Brookwood Avenue south and connect it to 247th Avenue, creating a realigned 4-legged intersection with TV Highway. The Witch Hazel / TV Highway intersection will be eliminated. The alignment of the intersections and limits of construction on the connecting side streets has been reviewed for the alternatives under consideration.

Improvements will include curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. A new railroad crossing will also be constructed along with the appropriate traffic, drainage, and landscape improvements. The existing railroad crossing at Witch Hazel Road will be eliminated.
