PORTLAND, Ore. – Jan. 22, 2008 – FORTUNE announced today that David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) has been ranked 73rd on the 11th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. DEA has 25 offices in seven states and employs nearly 1,100 people. The employee-owned firm’s staff includes professional engineers, surveyors, planners, landscape architects, and natural resources scientists.

DEA’s employees enjoy flexible schedules, telecommuting options, and other alternative work arrangements to help achieve a good work/life balance. The majority of DEA’s stock is held by the Employee Stock Ownership Plan, in which all employees participate. DEA also pays all employees for hours worked over 40 per week. Employees who are exempt are paid at 100 percent and non-exempt employees are paid at 150 percent of their hourly rate. This is true for all employees whether it is administrative work or project-related. Additionally, DEA pays 100 percent of the premiums for medical, dental and vision benefits for employees, their spouses and children.
To pick the “100 Best Companies to Work for” list, FORTUNE worked with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive survey in corporate America. Most of the company’s score is based on the results of the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees from each company. The other third of the scoring is based on the company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs. In order to be eligible, a company needs to be at least seven years old and have more than 1,000 U.S. employees.
